Social Networking and the expanding universe

Starry night

Starry night

Have you ever slept under the stars and looked up at the night sky, seeing the multitude of stars and felt so small. You can imagine the expanse of the universe and realize the earth being this blue marble suspended in a black pool and out there are millions of millions of star, each being equivalent to our sun and having any possible number of planets. And since the light from these stars travels for years to reach us you can imagine you are looking at pre-history. We may simply be a mote in god’s eye (reference to Larry Niven).

This is somewhat how I feel about the ever the expanding social network phenomena of Twitter. There are stars gathering millions of followers, names we recognize and some we don’t, then there are the multitudes of tweets and twitters. Seemingly countless apps and tools; twitpics, tweetdeck , hootsweet, etc. It’s a new universe and it is constantly growing. I feel like a spec of dust in the ether.
